International Education Week

November 16 - 20 is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of an effort to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States. More information can be found at the International Education Week website.

At Cal Poly, International Education and Programs (IEP) will celebrate the 9th annual International Education Week, by collaborating with other departments and programs on campus to heighten international awareness. For more information about Cal Poly events go to the IE Week link.

Global Living and Learning Community

Internrnational Education and Programs and University Housing have collaborated on a new “Global Living and Learning Community” that will be offered in Poly Canyon Village Apartments. Many U.S. universities offer similar theme floors that integrate returning study abroad students with international students and offer special programming that will assist students with cultural adjustment or reintegration. We see this diverse living community option as a way to provide academic enhancement while creating an international community. With this exceptional combination of students and commitment to diversity, the “Global Living and Learning Community” can help prepare you today for the multicultural environment and global workplace of tomorrow.

If you are interested in living in the "Global Living & Learning Community" located in the Cerro Vista Apartments, go to the International Students Housing page for more information..

Campus Study Abroad Fee (For All Affiliated Programs)

On February 5, 2008, Chancellor Reed approved a $200 study abroad fee for students participating in the following Cal Poly affiliated study abroad programs beginning Summer 2008: AustraLearn/AsiaLearn, Cultural Experiences Abroad (CEA), the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS), the Foundation for International Education (FIE), and the University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC).

This fee is approved to cover administrative costsCal Poly incurs with affiliated programs. The $200 charge will be placed on the student's Cal Poly account during the registration period for the term the student will study abroad. The fee payment is due within four days, unless the student is receiving financial aid. Failure to pay the fee within the four-day period will result in a "hold" on the student's account.

This campus study abroad fee will not result in additional costs for the student because the study abroad program provider will also issue a $200 automatic discount to be deducted from the student's study abroad program fees.

Refund Policy: If you decide to withdraw from a study abroad program, the Study Abroad Office must be notified in writing at least 60 days before the study abroad program start date. With proper notification, a credit of $200 will be made to the student's Cal Poly student account.
