Affiliated Programs
Affiliated programs afford students the opportunity to study abroad in thirty different countries around the world, either by completing courses at study centers designed for American students or by facilitating enrollment at local universities. Students select from a multitude of programs with varying levels of cultural integration, depending upon their language proficiency level and personal preferences. These programs, described in more detail below, offer classes that complement academic programs at Cal Poly and may allow opportunities to expand course options relating to major, minor, or general education. Many programs also include internship placements and educational excursions, as well as local orientation programs and student support services. The availability of any particular program is subject to change without notice and only a select number of programs from a particular provider may be approved. The affiliated programs include AustraLearn and AsiaLearn, Cultural Experiences Abroad (CEA), Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS), Foundation for International Education (FIE) and University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC).
Students studying in affiliated programs:
- Earn transfer credit and seek course pre-approvals by submitting course substitution forms for any major, minor, or general education courses
- Pay the program provider fees, not their Cal Poly fees
- Retain eligibility for federal financial aid and can apply for program specific scholarships
- Pay a $200 study abroad fee which is charged to their student account during the fee payment period at Cal Poly. The campus study abroad fee will not result in additional costs for the student because the study abroad program provider issues a $200 automatic discount to be deducted from the student’s study abroad program fees
The following eligibility requirements must be met prior to enrolling in an affiliated program: 1) Complete a minimum of 45 units and at least one term of enrollment at Cal Poly; 2) Be in good disciplinary and academic standing; 3) Maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA (some programs require higher GPA's).
